We’ve been working so hard since we re-opened, we thought it was about time Ian & I took the opportunity to unwind with a few days on the north Kent coast (or factually speaking the Thames Estuary, but north Kent coast sounds so much more romantic).
Between the kiss-me-quick hats and tacky “amusement” parlours dotted along the coast, we ran through peaceful wooded nature reserves, swam in sea pools, dined from organic farm shops and in the back of tiny restaurants and even managed to collect a few more chairs for the shop.
We’ve come back refreshed and full of ideas.

Inspired by our recent travels, Ian has created a new fish charcuterie board for the summer season, featuring perfect little bowls of smoked mackerel pâté, prawns in mouthwatering Marie Rose sauce and salty, creamy smoked cod’s roe.
We’ll be celebrating all this and more at our next Tasting Table on Thursday 20 August, expertly paired with a flight of six wines selected and guided by local expert Jamie Ellis of Hedley Wright Wine Merchants.
There are just a few spaces left, so if this sounds like your kind of evening, pull up a chair at The Tasting Table.

Overheard at many a local social gathering, “Hitchin is a great place to live – small enough to be friendly, big enough to support thriving independent businesses and a diverse & lively music & art scene – the only thing I’d change is to be closer to the sea …”
Those innovative & hard-working folks at Hitchin BID clearly heard these oft-repeated words and have brought the beach to the Market Square again this summer, but what if you are, strictly speaking, too old for a bucket & spade?
Well, now you too can pretend you’ve escaped to the coast. Pop on your best beach shorts and while away a blissful afternoon with a refreshing Aperol spritzor crisp glass of wine (REALLY good non-alcoholic alternatives also available) and indulge in our quickly-becoming-infamous lobster rolls.
Pure indulgence in every bite, these make a wonderful light lunch or an impromptu dinner. Topped with our signature crunchy seaweed straw potatoes and dripping in a labour-of-love rich bisque sauce – be warned, you’ll order one… and then have to tell all your friends and come back for more. **Based on true events

Did you know you can book The Little Deli for private events?
We’ve hosted big birthdays, intimate anniversaries and one very special evening when two families, meeting for the first time before a wedding, came from across the world — literally straight from the airport to the deli. It really is an honour to be part of such special memories.
What about you — what’s your next special occasion? A big (or small) birthday, a family reunion, an evening to thank friends who’ve supported you, a gift for foodie parents? Or perhaps no particular reason at all, just an excuse to get your favourite people together around one table?
From simple grazing boards to five-course fine dining evenings, let us lock the doors and host a night just for you.
Drop us a line or pop in for a chat — tell us what you’re celebrating and we’ll take it from there.
Whether you’re popping in for an impromptu lunch, joining us at The Tasting Table, or planning an evening of your own, we think there are plenty of excuses to visit The Little Deli this summer.
With best wishes (and a little sand still between our toes)
Ian, Jenny & the team at The Little Deli
