One small step from the colder winter months and one giant leap into March heady with the promise of Spring.

As the daffodils start to bloom to coincide with St David’s Day on 1 March, what better time to showcase the fantastic cheeses available on the other side of Offa’s Dyke? To mark the occasion, we are offering a prepared cheeseboard selection of 4 Welsh gems, featuring: Hafod – a buttery Cheddar, Perl Las or “Blue Pearl” – a creamy, yet rich blue cheese, Golden Cenarth – a soft, nutty washed-rind cheese, and although-not-technically-made in Wales, Duckett’s Caerphilly – the best example of this style of territorial.

Shortly after, we celebrate one of Ian’s favourites – Shrove Tuesday. Hitchin is celebrating early with a chance to show off your pancake-flipping skills in the Square on Sunday 1st. But if you’ve had enough of sweet pancakes by Tuesday, you can still put all that practice to good use by adding some Lincolnshire Poacher and chutney, or Baron Bigod and air-dried ham for a savoury treat instead!

Patron saints are like buses this month and hot on the heels (?!) of a slithering of snakes, is St Patrick’s Day on 17 March. While we all join in the hearty celebrations, why not pair your favourite tipple with some fantastic Irish cheese? Just let us know what glass you will be raising, and we will offer our advice on the best cheese, cracker & chutney pairing.

In honour of these national cultural holidays and in celebration of the wonderful diversity throughout our four nations, our next Deli After Dark evening on Thursday 20 March will showcase the cheeses from Scotland, Wales, England & Ireland, paired with homemade breads & a selection of drinks. We host a small group for a fun & informative evening and guide you through a cheese tasting with a difference. Sign up now for early access to tickets before general release! [link]

Don’t forget, the clocks spring forward on the last day of this month… which also happens to be Mothering Sunday. Poor Mum, losing an hour on her special day! So why not make it up to her with an extra special gift this year? We have two deliciously curated hampers selected with (new & old!) mums in mind or you can choose your own items to create a bespoke box of her favourites. Add a handwritten gift message at checkout & we’ll do the rest!

With best wishes & all the joys of Spring
